Observational Analysis of Canids in a Sanctuary Environment

ongoing research & observations

In 2024, Because We Matter was approved for a research license to formalize the observations we make of our animals during daily caretaking. The scope of our ongoing study includes comparison of differences in behaviors and biology between high-content wolfdogs and various breeds of domestic dogs (both designated C. lupus familiaris), as they relate to various stimuli, including smells & sounds, weather events & seasons, enrichments, etc. This study is supervised by unpaid expert parties to ensure that a high ethical standard is maintained.

We are also involved in wolfdog genetic programs to support the longevity of the wolf species in the wild in perpetuity.

Internships are available to select students.
